Another very meaty and terrific unit study from Kym Wright… and on one of my favorite topics! Written in the same format as her other great unit studies, she includes Kym‘s Konstruction Kit, a lesson-by-lesson organizational lesson plan to help you organize your study and record all information or additional resources you would like to use. The lessons themselves cover nearly every conceivable aspect of a library, from studying the history of libraries, learning the parts of a book, the Dewey Decimal system, what a librarian does, sections of a library, how to find library books on the shelf, additional book research, library and book etiquette, internet research, how to begin a library, how to volunteer at a library, starting a literature club or story hour, and much more. Each lesson is followed by several projects for the students to complete, including research, writing, worksheets, hands-on activities, and more “involved” projects that require more thought. The lessons are laid out very nicely, and all necessary forms or activity sheets have been included and are reproducible for your family only. Chances are you spend enough time at the library anyway - why not make a unit study out of it? - Jess
